Charles Henry Chapman (1879 - 1972)

Charles Henry Chapman was the first illustrator to put Frank Richards' creation of Billy Bunter stories into a comic strip format in the late 1930s. Born in Thetford, Norfolk, Chapman was apprenticed to an architect. Around 1900 he started contributing cartoons to various popular publications including Marvel, Pluck and Comic Cuts. In 1911, he embarked on a nearly 30 year collaboration with The Magnet of the Amalgamated Press.
